PEA RIDGE -- Community members are being asked to join in the installation of temporary projects aimed at reducing speed on city streets. Three sites were identified as prospects for the speed-reduction efforts during a recent Tactical Urbanism meeting. Those locations are: The intersection of Ross Salvage Road and Chitwood Street. Along Charles Street. The intersection of Manfield Avenue and Carper Lane. The safety measures being installed will include neckdowns, which visually narrow streets; crosswalks; and bike lane and curb extensions, according to Joshua Johnson, Pea Ridge active transportation director. The safety measures are temporary and intended to provide data for future installations. The work will take place beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Johnson said. Anyone interested in helping will be able to help move straw bales, cones and planters and can help with spray-painting. Safety vests will be provided, and participants may bring gloves if desired. Volunteers should meet at the intersection of Ross Salvage Road and Chitwood Street at the Elkhorn Sports Complex Park. After a brief meeting, groups will be formed to go to other locations. The project is being funded by the Walton Family Foundation and guided by Toole Design. Contact Johnson at jljohnson@cityofpearidge.com for more information.
