The countdown to Christmas has officially begun in Torrevieja, where the City Council has revealed the details of its extraordinary festive lighting for 2025. The ambitious project will see 70 streets, squares, promenades and neighbourhoods transformed into a glittering spectacle of light, marking the start of the Patron Saint and Christmas festivities on November 22. Councillor for Public Lighting Concha Sala announced that this year’s installation, carried out by Iluminaciones Granja S.L., will include more than 500 decorative elements, from arches and light curtains to Christmas trees. The project, part of a €387,467 investment (plus VAT), is already well underway across the city. Full details of the lighting programme are available on the Torrevieja City Council website. Details of the Event The lighting ceremony will be taking place during the afternoon of November 22, and it will cover 70 streets throughout the city, including squares, promenades, and residential zones. There will be over 500 light structures, including beautiful arches and thematic elements. The largest tree will be about 22 metres tall. It will be a natural Christmas tree, covered with 20,000 LED bulbs, located at the entrance of the port. There will also be a giant walk-in snowman in the Miguel Hernández Square, as well as prize-winning arches on Clemente Gosálvez Street which are set to be designed by local schoolchildren. Lastly, there will be three 15-metre trees in the Plaza de Oriente, La Mata, and Encarnación Puchol Square. The cost of the entire ceremony is projected to be €387,467 + VAT. Torrevieja Traditions The festive lighting is one of Torrevieja’s most anticipated annual traditions, drawing thousands of residents and visitors who come to admire its dazzling displays. The installation not only enhances the city’s festive atmosphere but also supports local businesses and tourism during the winter season. Beyond its visual impact, this year’s project highlights the city’s focus on energy efficiency and community participation. Many installations use modern LED technology to reduce power consumption, while the inclusion of designs from the School Drawing Competition ensures that local children play a creative role in shaping Torrevieja’s festive identity. Where to Enjoy the Event Residents and visitors can enjoy the full experience by exploring the city’s main illuminated routes. First off, people can check out Calle Concepción, Fotógrafos Darblade, and Canónigo Torres, featuring a ceiling of light spanning 14 kilometres of garlands and 100,000 micro bulbs. The Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will also be decorated with a giant illuminated star. Then there is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, whose façade will glow with 150,000 warm white LEDs. Outside of Torrevieja, outlying districts such as La Siesta, Torreta Florida, Los Balcones, and Aguas Nuevas, there will be “Merry Christmas” signs which will appear in both Spanish and English. Visitors are encouraged to attend the lighting ceremony on November 22, marking the official start of the Patron Saint festivities and the city’s Christmas season. After the Celebrations Once the Patron Saint celebrations conclude, the route of La Purísima Concepción will be redecorated with Christmas-themed arches, keeping the city illuminated well into the New Year.
