Patriots coach explains why his Movember mustache means more this year

Mike Vrabel’s mustache is gaining momentum along with his team. The Patriots coach is growing the facial hair as part of Movember, the annual movement where men grow mustaches to raise awareness of men’s health concerns, including prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health. On his weekly radio hit on WEEI, Vrabel said the gesture means more this year because Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams is battling prostate cancer. The team’s players and coaches have been wearing “T Strong” clothing all season and the mustache is another sign of support. Gillette hosted an event to kick off the month. “It is important. We understand how important our health is. Being able to focus on prostate cancer and men’s health,” Vrabel said. “Thankful to Gillette for supporting us and what we do here. With Big T going through it, it makes it even more special and near and dear to our heart. There are some other people here around the building that are partaking in it. ” Vrabel thinks his mustache is coming in pretty well. “Not bad. By the end of this week it should be pretty good,” said Vrabel, who made it a point to say he wasn’t alone among the team’s newly mustachioed. “They might not be as dark as mine. Stretch (Vice President of Football Operations and Strategy John Streicher) is rocking it and there are other people in the building that are rocking the stache too. We’ll be in full force."
