Patrick Mahomes Sends Strong Message Following Chiefs' Loss to Jaguars

The Kansas City Chiefs entered Monday night riding high on a two-game win streak and jumped out to a fast 14-0 start against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, after Jacksonville weathered the early storm, the Jaguars went into halftime trailing just 14-7. They then opened the second half with a stop and a score to tie the game 14-14, and from there, the lead changed hands three different times before Trevor Lawrence sealed the win with a rushing touchdown in the final 23 seconds, lifting Jacksonville to a 31-28 victory.

Lawrence finished with 221 passing yards, one touchdown, two turnovers, and 54 rushing yards along with two scores on the ground.

Patrick Mahomes completed 29 of 41 passes for 318 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while also adding 60 rushing yards and a touchdown. His lone interception proved costly, coming deep in Jaguars territory and being returned 99 yards for a touchdown by linebacker Devin Lloyd.

After the game, Mahomes didn’t hold back his frustrations, making it clear that the Chiefs have already let too many games slip away early in the season.

“Yeah, I mean, it kind of just talks about our whole entire season,” Mahomes said. “I feel like we have the guys, and we’ve executed and looked really good — and then we crush ourselves with penalties, mistakes, and interceptions. We’ve kind of done that to ourselves all year long. It’s kind of been one guy here or there, and in this league, it’s so close that those plays change games. We’ve got to be better. We’ve lost too many games already. So we’ve got to find ways to be better as a team and play better throughout the rest of the season.”

Mahomes, however, is beginning to find his rhythm offensively, despite his interception — a positive sign for a Chiefs unit that’s just one game away from welcoming back one of its top playmakers, wide receiver Rashee Rice. Rice was suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the NFL’s conduct policy in 2024.

Kansas City now sits at 2-3, while the Jaguars continue trending upward, improving to 4-1 in head coach Liam Coen’s first year at the helm.

The Chiefs will now return home to Arrowhead Stadium for a primetime showdown on Sunday Night Football against the red-hot Detroit Lions. That will be followed by matchups against the Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, and Buffalo Bills to kick off November.
