The Kansas City Chiefs entered the bye week on a low note following their 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took responsibility for his mistakes and sent a strong message to the team. “There’s no easy game coming up, and there’s no more chances that we can really take losses,” Mahomes told reporters. “So, I mean, you got to learn from it fast, and we got to be better as a team offensively. “And I think we’ll just continue to push away and learn on this bye week and then come back and be ready to play our best football coming off of it.” Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, stayed busy during the break. Brittany joined Mahomes, the guest picker on ESPN’s “College GameDay” program on Saturday, in Lubbock to watch his alma mater, Texas Tech, hand BYU their first loss of the season. The couple is expected back in Kansas City for the NWSL quarterfinal playoff game at CPKC Stadium on Sunday, November 9. Brittany, a former soccer player, is a founding co-owner of the Kansas City Current, along with owners Chris and Angie Long. Mahomes joined as a co-owner in January 2023. The Current, the No. 1-ranked team in the league, take on Gotham FC (No. 8) on Sunday. While the Current are considered runaway favorites to win this year’s championship title after becaming the fastest team to clinch the NWSL Shield, earning the most wins (21), scoring the most points in a single season (65 points), and conceding the fewest goals (13) — they received concerning news on their superstar player on the eve before the playoffs. The Current’s Back-to-Back Golden Boot Winner Is ‘Questionable’ With a Hip Injury Current star Temwa Chawinga, who scored 15 goals with three assists this season, became the first back-to-back Golden Boot winner since Sam Kerr in 2019. However, Chawinga suffered an adductor injury on October 18 and hasn’t played since. With their star striker out, Kansas City saw its 17-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss to the No. 10-ranked Houston Dash. Due to her injury, Chawinga announced she had to turn down the opportunity to compete with the Malawi national team during the international break. On the eve before the 2025 NWSL playoffs, the team officially listed Chawinga as “questionable” on the injury report. While the 27-year-old sitting out would be a huge blow for the Current, they were able to defeat the San Diego Wave 2-1 without Chawinga during their regular-season finale. Brittany Mahomes Joined the NWSL’s Star-Studded Advisory Board to ‘Help Steer’ The League’s Future Following the Current’s historic success this year, Brittany is joining an A-list group to help the NWSL continue to grow. Boardroom and the NWSL posted on November 6, “The league announced the formation of a new advisory board made up of athletes, investors, and cultural icons who will focus on marketing, branding, fan engagement, and player initiatives starting in 2026.” “Commissioner Jessica Berman says the group will serve as mentors and cultural connectors while helping expand the league’s reach through partnerships and appearances in NWSL campaigns — a move that underscores the growing influence of women’s sports.” Mahomes proudly posted the announcement on his Instagram Stories.
