Patient dies during treatment; unregistered clinic sealed in Tamil Nadu

Tenkasi: In a shocking incident, a private clinic at Adaikalapattinam near Alangulam in Tenkasi district was sealed by health department officials on Saturday, following the death of a 65-year-old woman who reportedly died during treatment at the facility. The deceased’s family has accused the clinic of providing wrong treatment, leading to her untimely death. According to news reports, the woman was taken to the clinic by her relatives on Friday for treatment of a sore on her left leg. However, she reportedly died while undergoing treatment, prompting her family to accuse the clinic of medical negligence.Acting on the complaint, a team of health department officials led by Joint Director of Health Services P. Premalatha inspected the clinic on Saturday morning. Officials found that the clinic had been functioning without mandatory registration under the Tamil Nadu Clinical Establishments Act, lacked a valid drug licence, and did not have basic emergency medicines stocked. Officials said the clinic had been functioning only for the past few months without fulfilling basic regulatory requirements.Also Read: Patient dies after injection by Quack, FIR registeredThe health department officials, upon uncovering these serious infractions, decided to seal the facility and initiate an inquiry. The action was taken on the directives of both the district administration and the local police.Based on a complaint from her son Subramanian, police on Saturday registered a case against the doctor under Section 194 of BNSS, reports the TNIE.Also Read:Gynaecologist suspended for negligence after pregnant woman’s deathMedical Dialogues had previously reported that, after being found guilty in a medical negligence case, an obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Government Mother and Child Hospital in Basava Kalyana had been suspended and transferred to another healthcare facility on charges of dereliction of duty. According to an order issued by the Commissioner of the Health and Family Welfare Department, the doctor has been transferred to the Community Health Centre at Kudalasangama in Hungund taluk of Bagalkot district.
