Pat McAfee hits back at liberals as Donald Trump interview sparks outrage: 'It's the President'

Pat McAfee has defended his decision to interview President Donald Trump after furious liberals threatened to boycott his ESPN show on Tuesday. Trump called in to speak with the ex-NFL punter on a Veteran's Day edition of his daily sports talk show, even leading chants of 'oorah' with a group of new marines who formed the audience in Parris Island. Yet inevitably, the Commander-in-Chief's appearance sparked a liberal meltdown on social media, with a host of left-wing viewers hitting out at McAfee and calling for a boycott of his show. One user wrote on X: 'Beginning of the end for Pat Mcafee'. 'As of today, Pat McAfee has just lost any ounce of credibility,' said another. A third fumed: 'I’ve loved watching McAfee every day. I made the assumption that his opinions are different than mine, but he has always said it’s important to keep politics out of sports. Turns out that’s only when it’s for those he doesn’t agree with. Can’t watch the show in good faith anymore'. 'Pat McAfee just lost 80% of his viewers doing whatever tf this is lol clown show,' a fourth user posted. While one simply put: 'All the more reason to Boycott ESPN, Disney and now McAfee.' It didn't take long for McAfee to respond to the backlash, nevertheless, with the ESPN host arguing that it was a no brainer to speak with the President on Veteran's Day. 'I will like to say, though, for the immediate people that are gonna mad about that happening... it's the President of the United States,' he said on the show after his interview with Trump. 'It's Veterans Day. He's the Commander-in-Chief. Obviously if we have the opportunity to talk to him, we're going to. And he's hilarious!' McAfee also claimed that he and his team reached out to Barack Obama after Trump agreed to go on the show, only for the former President's schedule conflicts to prevent an interview from happening. During their discussion, McAfee spoke with Trump about America's Veterans, the current government shutdown, college football and the controversial NFL kickoff rule that he wants changed. The 79-year-old was also asked which NFL coach he thinks would make a good President, and while he didn't name names, he said he thinks certain coaches would be useful strategists in a war. Trump explained: 'We had the great Philadelphia and he (Nick Sirianni) is some coach. 'I've often thought, you know strategy-wise you see some of the good strategy - every once in a while you see some pretty bad strategy too, we can name plenty of that - but you see strategy. 'I've often said we go out and get the best four or five coaches and put them in a room if you are going to war and use them. Because they do it, ultimately it is all about strategy. 'It is about attack, it is about what angle, give me the angle of attack. I'll bet you some of these coaches would make great warring generals. I tell you, I would not be beneath doing that. 'You get five or six of those guys, I know some of them. They come to the White House every year with the winning team, the winning Super Bowl team. I've gotten to know them through that. 'You wouldn't lose badly if you did that, I'll tell you. Tremendous guys, great leaders.
