Partner Cooks Their Wife Steak, Unprepared for Their Reaction

A wife’s reaction to the steak her partner cooked has ignited an internet debate. On r/mildlyinfuriating, Reddit user u/FreeRealEstate313 posted a photo of a browned piece of meat, writing: “Wife says the steak I made for her isn’t cooked enough. I cooked this and broiled it and made sure to temp it and she says the red means it’s still raw.” The post has since garnered 59,000 upvotes. According to the user, the steak was a petite sirloin—a lean cut from the sirloin region of the beef, typically lower fat than rib-eye or strip and offering good flavor when cooked correctly. “The reason I chose Mildly Infuriating is because she told me it was raw which I know from working in the food industry was not the case this time. Since then I made her burritos last night and I made sure the ground beef was to her level of well done,” the Original Poster (OP) told Newsweek. Wife says the steak I made for her isn’t cooked enough. byu/FreeRealEstate313 inmildlyinfuriating In spite of the user checking temperature with a thermometer and broiling the steak, the OP said the wife went to put the steak back on the heat to cook it further. The poster explained to Newsweek they started cooking dinner around 2 p.m. after work, preparing steak and leftover baked potatoes. Their wife asked for her steak “well done,” and after about 30 minutes in the oven, the meat reached a safe temperature. She initially said it looked perfect, but once served, claimed it was “still raw” because of “pink around the edge.” The user explained the color came from broiling, but their wife insisted on frying it twice more. They said she was mainly worried about getting sick before visiting family for Halloween. Despite the mix-up, the Redditor said they learned more about her steak preferences and “had some good laughs” reading the comments together. What Is a Petite Sirloin? The petite sirloin is a section of beef cut from the sirloin area (which lies behind the short loin and ahead of the round). It has moderate marbling and flavor, and when cooked appropriately it can be tender and tasty though perhaps not as indulgent as fattier cuts. Because it is leaner, precision in cooking and resting are helpful to avoid toughness. How Should You Cook a Steak? According to the guide from BBC Good Food, cooking a steak well means: Bringing it to room temperature for a short while before cooking. Heating your pan or grill hot enough to develop a brown crust—this crust delivers flavor via the Maillard reaction. Cooking time for rare is 1.5 minutes each side, 2.25 minutes each side for medium and 4-5 minutes each side for well-done. Using a digital thermometer if you have one: for example, aim for about 57 °C in the middle for rare, 71 °C for medium and 75 °C for well-done. After cooking, resting the steak for at least five minutes so juices redistribute rather than pouring out when you cut into it. So if the user’s partner “broiled it and made sure to temp it”, those are strong indicators of good practice. A stock image showing a close-up of beef steak on a grill. Reddit Reacts The post struck a nerve with many Redditors, unleashing jokes, jabs and empathy. “Slap some beef jerky on a plate next time for her,” said one user. “At this point just microwave it till it screams for mercy,” quipped another viewer. “It’s beyond fully cooked,” said someone else. “This isn’t well done. It’s congratulations,” joked another. “This isn’t ‘congratulations’ it’s ‘get better soon’,” said another. “This isn’t ‘get better soon’ it’s ‘my deepest sympathies’,” quipped yet another. “It’s not my deepest sympathies. It’s ‘I am so sorry for your loss’,” added another viewer. “You need to explain that the pink is from seasoning or marinade or something, no one in here seems to be understanding where she’s coming from with the pink comment – it’s not the middle, it’s the edges, it’s very pink, but that is unrelated to how cooked it is,” shared another user. “My MIL and I no longer cook steaks for each other. She refuses to serve my steak ‘raw’ (her words) and I refuse to ‘incinerate’ hers (my words),” added another. Do you have any viral videos or pictures that you want to share?
