Part True Crime Series Is A Must

This brand-new Netflix miniseries is already skyrocketing up global streaming charts just one day after its worldwide premiere. At only four episodes long, this historical epic — based on true events and produced by the creators of Game of Thrones — is easily one of the most binge-worthy new Netflix releases to watch this weekend. Netflix has kicked off November 2025 with an impressive lineup of can’t-miss shows. While The Witcher season 4 continues to dominate global viewership, the acclaimed thriller The Asset has emerged as an unexpected viral sensation, alongside other top-performing crime dramas like Amsterdam Empire, Rulers of Fortune, and Bad Influencer. Death By Lightning Is Netflix's New Must-Binge Hit This Weekend If there's only one new Netflix series to binge-watch this weekend, it's the true crime political drama series Death By Lightning. For starters, the series is already receiving praise across the board, earning an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and audiences alike – and it's the #1 show in the U.S. right now. Additionally, the 4-part miniseries – created by Emmy winner Mike Makowsky (Bad Education, Beef) and produced by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss – also has an outstanding cast. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and Michael Shannon (Waco) lead alongside Betty Gilpin (American Primeval), Nick Offerman (The Last of Us), Shea Whigham (Mission: Impossible), and Bradley Whitford (The Diplomat). On top of all that, Death by Lightning portrays one of the oldest true crime stories in American history, dramatizing the assassination of the 20th U.S. President, James Garfield (Shannon), by his admirer Charles Guiteau (Macfadyen). As such, the series has some eerily relevant and timely parallels to the modern political climate, another reason why it's a must-binge on Netflix this weekend. Death By Lightning Is On Pace To Be Netflix's New #1 Global Show At the time of writing, Death by Lightning is already #3 on Netflix’s global streaming charts and #1 in the United States, despite being on the platform for just over 24 hours. At this pace, it’s poised to reach the #1 spot globally, though it will need to outperform The Witcher and The Asset to get there. If its electric momentum continues, Death by Lightning could become Netflix’s most-watched new show of November, particularly among English-language series. While it’s unlikely to surpass the Stranger Things season 5 premiere later this month, its strongest competition for the #1 English-language series title may be The Beast in Me, an 8-part thriller releasing next week.
