Madang Governor Ramsey Pariwa has handed over two new vehicles to support education and fisheries in the province, saying the move is part of his government’s commitment to strengthen key community services.
The presentation took place at the Ela Motors yard in Madang, where dealership manager Manase Kauleni handed over the keys to the recipients in the presence of the governor.
A new school truck, costing K152,000, was given to Trans-Gogol Secondary School principal Nivirity Ivan, while a Toyota open-back Land Cruiser, valued at around K200,000, went to the Fisheries and Marine Resources Division for use in Bogia district.
Governor Pariwa said the school vehicle was purchased in response to requests from Trans-Gogol’s board and staff, who have struggled with transport for years.
He noted that the truck will also help ensure the safety of students and teachers in an area that has seen violent attacks in recent years.
“The vehicle will ease the movement of students and staff, and it will help transport vital supplies for the school. This is about supporting education in very real and practical ways,” he said.
For Bogia, the new Land Cruiser is expected to boost the work of the fisheries sector, which has faced logistical challenges in running community programs. Assistant Director Greg Serar and long-serving fisheries officer Marabia Igob both described the handover as a milestone.
“In my entire working life with the provincial administration, I’ve not seen a governor provide such direct support to the fisheries sector. This is the first of its kind,” Igob said.
Governor Pariwa also thanked Ela Motors for maintaining its presence in Madang since the colonial era. “Ela Motors has stood with us for decades and continues to provide reliable vehicles that suit our rugged terrains. I want to see them remain in Madang for the next 50 years,” he said.
