In a letter delivered to Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha, the Association welcomed the historic position Panama has maintained by strongly and consistently rejecting the criminal policy, which has lasted more than 60 years and is the leading obstacle to the Caribbean country’s economic development and the cause of countless suffering and hardships. Regarding the effects of the US blockade, the AMCRP points out the extraterritorial and damaging nature of the unilateral sanctions and cites, among other things, the obstacles in the banking system to conducting normal financial transactions between the two countries, which affects families, but also the business sector. The group noted that the economic pressure measures against the region’s nations contribute to the causes of the continent’s migration crisis. Therefore, speaking out firmly against them, as Panama has done, is also attacking the root of a phenomenon that directly and seriously affects the interests of a nation and regional stability. The message also underscored that, as Cubans who have made this nation their second homeland, Panama’s consistent stance in defense of sovereignty and non-interference in the domestic affairs of states fills us with pride and satisfaction. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez recently warned that the United States Government is exerting pressure on several countries to influence their votes on the resolution demanding an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the Caribbean nation. jdt/iff/rgh/ga
