A Palestinian man who fled to Ireland when Israel bombed Gaza is begging for help to save the lives of his parents and other trapped family.
Said Enaia, 38, was in Bahrain when the first bombs Israeli bombs fell on Gaza nearly two years ago. The horticulturist, who now lives in Dublin, has lost several loved ones to the bloody bombardment which Palestine claims has killed tens of thousands of people.
Mr Enaia does not want any more family members killed and is fundraising in a bid to save the lives of his mum, dad, his brother and his brother’s wife and kids. Said told the Irish Mirror: “All my remaining family is in Gaza. My parents, my brother, his family, our aunts and uncles.
“We have also lost many relatives, they are dead. I cannot even count. My mother’s family is a big family and many have died. I am trying to send them money. I came to Ireland in January 2024. When the war started, I was in Bahrain and now I am working in Dublin.
“It is to pay for basic things like water and food. They also need a tent. Winter is coming, so it will be very cold. This money is to keep them alive. My parents are aged 79.”
The conflict in Gaza followed an attack by Hamas that killed 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023, and has since resulted in the deaths of an estimated 65,000 victims, according to international figures.
The response by Israel, which recently announced its aim to conquer the entire Gaza Strip, has been condemned worldwide and criticised as genocide.
Said’s brother Youssef, his wife Heba, and their little daughter Musk, are among those at risk of death in Gaza. Said explained that for the past two years, the family has lost everything due to the war, including their home and belongings, and are now struggling daily with no stable shelter, limited food, and no access to proper medical care.
Said all funds raised will go towards food, clean water, shelter, and urgent medical expenses. As of yesterday, some €100 has been raised of a €13,000 target. A spokesperson for the GoFundMe page Support My Brother Youssef Enaia revealed that Said has previously organised other appeals for his family in Gaza.
These were Support to Rebuild My Family’s Home March 2024, which raised over €7,200 after their home was destroyed, and Help My Family in Gaza earlier this year, which raised over €2,400 for survival essentials.
Said stated on Go Fund Me: “My parents, brother, and his family have endured unimaginable hardship caused by the ongoing war. They have been forced to flee once again from their city to the south and into the unknown, making their situation even more dangerous and uncertain.
“The funds raised will be used to cover basic survival needs, including food, clean water, shelter, and urgent medical expenses.”
