Pakistan will take on the UAE in their final league game of the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium on September 17. There is growing uncertainty around the match and whether Pakistan will participate, as the PCB has threatened to boycott the clash if their demands for Andy Pycroft’s removal are not met. Notably, PCB was upset at Pycroft for siding with India during the handshake controversy and felt that the match referee didn’t uphold the spirit of the game. If they decide to compete, which is the more likely outcome, Pakistan would need to win the game to book a berth in the Super 4s. They were hammered by India in the last game and are short on confidence. UAE, on the other hand, decimated Oman and fetched two crucial points. The upcoming game is a virtual knockout. With India already qualified, the winner of the match would join them in the Super 4s. Pakistan is a higher-ranked team, but the UAE is no walkover by any means.
