BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has accused Mohsin Naqvi of taking the Asia Cup trophy as well as Team India’s medals. The BCCI will lodge a protest against Naqvi at the ICC meeting next month.
After winning the India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 final, Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India protested against ACC President Mohsin Naqvi. Team India refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from him. This drama lasted for about 2 hours. After this, Mohsin Naqvi left and someone else took the trophy. Now, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia has accused Mohsin Naqvi of taking away the Asia Cup trophy as well as Team India’s medals. Regarding this, the BCCI will register a protest against Naqvi in the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting to be held next month.
India to protest against Pakistan
Devjit Saikia told the Indian Express, “We had decided not to accept the trophy from the ACC President, who is one of Pakistan’s leading leaders. But that doesn’t mean he will take the trophy along with the medals. This is very unfortunate, very unfair, and we hope the trophy and medals are returned to India as soon as possible. We will protest this at the ICC conference in November.”
There couldn’t have been a better response
Saikia further said, “Our armed forces have done this in the border area, and now the same has been repeated in Dubai. So this is a great moment, a significant occasion for Indian cricket… First there was Operation Sindoor, and now there is Operation Qila. So this is a befitting reply to all the absurd actions committed by some hostile countries. So I don’t think there could have been a better response than this on the grand occasion of the final match in Dubai.”
Devjit Saikia explained the reason for playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
Saikia explained, “The BCCI has followed the spirit and policy set by the Indian government regarding all sports. Therefore, when there is a bilateral tournament, India will not play against Pakistan or any other enemy country. And the BCCI has been doing this for the last 12-15 years. The government has said that we must play in multinational tournaments, whether it is cricket or football. Otherwise, the federation will be banned by the international federations. So we followed the central government’s policy.”
