Pact signed to rejuvenate Mampuzha river in Kozhikode

The Kunnamangalam block panchayat and the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday under the Block Innovation Cluster (BIC) Project to rejuvenate the Mampuzha river. The project, focused on addressing grey-water pollution and rejuvenation of the river, is supported by National Institute of Technology -Calicut for geospatial and technical inputs. The Block Innovation Cluster (BIC) initiative was jointly formulated by the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) and the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) under the flagship programme ‘One Local Body, One Idea’ (OLOI). The project aims to create structured partnerships between local governments and academic or research institutions to develop sustainable, technology-driven solutions for local challenges. Officials from the Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat, KILA, scientists from the CWRDM and faculty representatives from NIT-C were present during the signing of the MoU. The CWRDM will conduct water quality testing and diagnostic studies of the river as part of the project, while the Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat will facilitate field work, community coordination, and local data access.
