There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Green Bay Packers these days after they acquired 26-year-old superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys just days ago. They started off the 2025 NFL season by blasting the Detroit Lions, 27-13, and plenty now feel they have a shot at reaching the Super Bowl. But for the Packers to get to the big game, they will need some internal improvement on offense. Namely, one of their young wide receivers will have to grow into a legitimate Pro Bowl-level one who puts up quadruple-digit receiving yards on the season.Christian Watson, one of those young wideouts, is currently sidelined due to an ACL injury he suffered in Week 18 last season. But the franchise has still given him a one-year contract extension for $13.25 million, which means he will likely wear Packers green once again after his rehab is over.Read more: Packers’ Micah Parsons Receives Massive Prediction From NFL Analyst
Watson, 26, caught 29 passes and registered 620 yards and two touchdowns in 2024. The season prior to that, he had put up 422 yards and five touchdowns in nine games despite dealing with a nagging hamstring ailment. He was a second-round draft pick in 2022 out of North Dakota State University, where he had won four NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) championships. While Green Bay was eighth in points scored and fifth in total yards gained last year, it will need to have a legitimate alpha wideout one way or another to, at the very least, reach the NFC Championship Game.On Sunday, no one on the team had more than three catches. Romeo Doubs led everyone on the squad with 68 receiving yards, while Parsons had one sack in his Green Bay debut.Read more: Falcons Receive Major Injury Update on Drake LondonIt goes against Packers tradition to make major trades or free agent acquisitions, which is one reason why the deal for Parsons was so shocking. But it could perhaps set a new precedent for general manager Brian Gutekunst as he looks to build a mighty roster and bring home the franchise’s first Vince Lombardi Trophy in 15 years. For more on the Packers and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
