Oxfam Books & Music Lichfield reopens with sustainable new look after exciting refurbishment

The refit introduces OSB (oriented strand board) fixtures, chosen for their durability and environmental benefits. These fittings were made in the UK and designed to connect directly to Oxfam’s mission — demonstrating how sustainable materials can create inspiring, modern retail spaces. In true Oxfam fashion, many of the shop’s original fixtures have been upcycled and repurposed, reducing waste and celebrating circular design. Visitors will also notice activist-style messaging throughout the store, with bold statements such as “Make the Future Fairer. Rewrite the Story”. These phrases serve as reminders that every purchase helps tackle poverty and inequality. A standout feature of the redesign is a striking custom wallpaper, made up of archival covers from Oxfam’s Bother magazine from the 1970s and 1980s — connecting the shop’s new look with Oxfam’s long-standing campaigning heritage. “We’re incredibly excited to reopen this refreshed Oxfam Books & Music shop in Lichfield — it’s not just a new look, but a new chapter,” said Matt Burgess-Evans, Head of Store Development at Oxfam GB. “Every element of the redesign reflects who we are as an organisation: creative, sustainable, and driven by purpose. From the UK-made fittings to the upcycled materials and activist messaging, this shop embodies Oxfam’s belief that small changes can make a big difference.” The reopening is part of a national overhaul of Oxfam’s retail network, aimed at revitalising stores across the UK with more sustainable materials, improved layouts, and inspiring design. The updated Lichfield shop will offer a welcoming environment for book lovers and changemakers alike — a place where every purchase helps to build a fairer, more equal world. The shop team is looking forward to welcoming customers back to browse an extensive range of second-hand books, vinyl, CDs, and DVDs. About Oxfam Oxfam is a global movement of millions of people who share the belief that poverty isn’t inevitable — it’s an injustice that can be overcome. Working in over 80 countries, Oxfam helps communities to build fairer, more sustainable futures, responding to emergencies, campaigning for change, and tackling the inequalities that keep people in poverty. In the UK, Oxfam has a network of over 500 shops run by dedicated staff and volunteers. Every item sold helps to raise funds to fight poverty and inequality worldwide.
