The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall on over 2 million pounds of ready-to-eat pork jerky sold at Costco and Sam’s Club that may be contaminated with foreign material. Specifically, the jerky may contain wiry pieces of metal from the conveyor belt used in production. How To Identify the Recalled Jerky Approximately 2,277,540 pounds of Korean barbecue pork jerky, which is produced by LSI, Inc. under the name Golden Island Korean BBQ Pork Jerky, are impacted by this recall. The recalled jerky was sold in 14.5- and 16-ounce bags and sold exclusively in Sam’s Club and Costco club stores. The recalled products bear the establishment number "M279A" in the USDA mark of inspection, but can also be identified by their lot codes and "best by" dates. The "best by" dates on the recalled jerky range from Oct. 23, 2025, to Sept. 23, 2026, with an assortment of lot codes. To determine if you have the recalled jerky, you can find a full list of lot codes and "best by dates" on the USDA’s website. The recalled Golden Island Korean BBQ Pork Jerky was distributed and sold in stores nationwide. However, Sam’s Club has identified that the recalled product was sold in 30 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Costco has not shared a list of states where the recalled jerky was sold. No other sizes of the Golden Island Korean BBQ Pork Jerky have been recalled at this time. What To Do if You Have the Recalled Jerky If you have the recalled jerky, you should not consume it. FSIS has classified this recall as Class I, meaning that consuming the product could lead to "serious injury or death." While there have been no injuries reported at this time, consuming the jerky that may contain metal pieces could lead to serious internal injury.
