Over 2,000 applications received for RTE admissions in Coimbatore district

A total of 2,204 applications have been received for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Coimbatore revenue district, according to education officials. Following the release of Tamil Nadu’s due share of reimbursement funds by the Centre, in compliance with the directions of the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court, the State government announced the commencement of RTE admissions. In Coimbatore, 335 private schools have earmarked seats under this quota and were instructed to upload details on the Education Management Information System (EMIS) portal. Chief Educational Officer R. Balamurali said the final phase of the admission process was held on October 30 and 31. “In cases where the number of applications exceeded the available seats, admissions were made through a transparent and random lot process conducted in the presence of the head of the institution and parents. After completion of this process, all selected children will be officially tagged under the RTE quota in the EMIS portal, ensuring their inclusion in the academic roll for the year 2025–26,” he said. He added that the verification of manually signed admission documents received from schools is ongoing and is being cross-checked with the EMIS data to prevent duplication of admissions. “Once this process is completed, the exact number of admissions made under the RTE quota will be known,” he said.
