Outlander heartthrob Sam Heughan has given his 4.4 million social media followers a sneak peek at his thrilling new project. The Scottish actor, famed for his portrayal of Jamie Fraser in the beloved Starz period drama, has recently concluded over ten years of his captivating on-screen romance with Caitriona Balfe's time-travelling Claire. He's now embracing a bold new challenge, returning to the stage for the first time since securing his breakthrough television role. Heughan is set to take the lead in Shakespeare's Macbeth at The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon, running from 9th October through 6th December. This week, he shared an Instagram post offering followers a backstage glimpse of the production's impressive cast, which features The Crown's Lia Williams as Lady Macbeth, reports the Scottish Daily Express. In his caption, he penned: "'The Scottish Play'", accompanied by emojis of a crimson blood droplet and crossed daggers. "Rehearsals are intense, surprising and exciting..." Heughan continued to disclose. "Come see us in Shakespeares birthplace. More tickets have been released recently." The photographs he posted show the cast working through their dialogue and blocking for the production, including one striking image of Heughan sitting whilst gripping an axe, his free hand clasped by a fellow performer. Supporters were delighted to receive this preview of the Outlander star's exciting new venture, which is helmed by Daniel Raggett for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Several fans have already secured their tickets, with one Instagram user expressing: "Wouldn't miss it! So excited!!" Another responded: "So much anticipation for this production - looking forward to opening night." "Looks like you guys are creating magic over there!" chimed in a third. A fourth added: "I can't imagine your emotions returning to the stage after years of filming. Enjoy every moment as it has been your heart's wish to return to stage acting!" Outlander's official Instagram account cheekily retorted, "wait... you're Scottish?!" accompanied by a wink emoji. The cast also boasts Gilly Gilchrist as Duncan, Nicholas Karimi as Banquo, Alec Newman as Macduff and Jamie Marie Leary as Lady Macduff. For Outlander fans unable to see Heughan on stage, they can still look forward to his return alongside Balfe for the final season of the drama early next year. Outlander is available to stream on MGM+ via Prime Video.
