A national steakhouse chain has closed two of its Birmingham locations. The Outback Steakhouse on 20th Street North at 20 Midtown, across the street from Publix, has closed, as has the Inverness location on U.S. 280. Neither restaurant is listed on the chain’s website. A statement from the company said the restaurants’ last day of operation was Sunday. “Closing a restaurant is never easy,” the statement said. " This was a business decision that is not a reflection of the management or staff. Some employees will have the opportunity to transfer, and all will receive a transition bonus. We appreciate the community’s support over the years and look forward to serving them at our Fultondale and Hoover restaurants." On Monday, the Midtown restaurant posted a Facebook video captioned ‘When my boss tells me to bring in more customers.’ It showed a worker dragging a “customer” in by their feet and feeding them as they were tied to a chair. Locations remain in Cullman, Dothan, Florence, Fultondale, Hoover, Huntsville, Madison, Mobile, Montgomery, Opelika, Pell City, Phenix City, Prattville and Tuscaloosa. The downtown restaurant opened in 2024.
