Oura, the well-known manufacturer of smart rings, recently announced several hardware and software additions to its platform. The updates include the debut of the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic collection. There are also its first mobile charging case and the introduction of a health feature that incorporates blood biomarker testing directly within the Oura app.
Oura Ring 4 Ceramic collection
The Oura Ring 4 Ceramic collection features the company’s first smart rings without a metallic finish. It’s built from zirconia ceramic, a material traditionally seen in watchmaking or jewelry. This elevates the ring’s premium sensation while keeping it light and comfortable. The new collection is available in four colors—Tide, Cloud, Petal, and Midnight—and is priced at $499. Oura notes the ceramic material allows the color to remain consistent without fading over time.
For practical maintenance, the rings ship with a polishing pad. After all, the ceramic material may show scuffs from softer metals often encountered during daily life or at the gym. Oura suggests wearing the ring on the non-dominant hand to minimize this impact.
To improve user flexibility, Oura also introduced multi-ring support. This feature allows individuals to pair and utilize different Oura Ring 4 units under a single account, enabling users to switch between rings depending on their preference or activity. This function has begun rolling out to iOS users.
Charging and portability
For more convenient charging options, Oura released its first portable charging case. Available for $99 later this year, the case connects via USB-C and holds sufficient power for up to five full ring charges. The case can fully charge both itself and the ring within 90 minutes. This accessory offers users a secure method for storing the ring and topping up power while away from a fixed charging dock.
Integrated health data
The most extensive software update is the Health Panels feature. This service offers US-based Oura members the option to schedule cardiometabolic blood tests at over 2,000 Quest Diagnostics labs directly through the Oura app for a flat fee of $99. The service is currently limited to the US market and requires users to be between 18 and 65 years old.
The blood test results, which track 50 key biomarkers, are delivered within the app after being clinician-reviewed. The data is then automatically linked to the ring’s continuous measurements of sleep, readiness, and activity. Lastly, the Oura Advisor component provides analysis and personalized insights. It helps members identify connections between their biometric data and lifestyle factors. It aims to address specific user inquiries, allowing members to ask questions about their A1C or cholesterol profile.
