OSP summons DVLA boss over alleged GHS4m bribe claim

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has invited the Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, for questioning after he publicly claimed to have rejected a GH¢4 million bribe allegedly offered to halt the rollout of the new Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy. In a recent media interview, Mr. Kotey disclosed that certain influential individuals had attempted to pressure him into abandoning the digital registration initiative, which aims to curb vehicle-related fraud and improve road safety. The OSP, in a statement, confirmed that it is engaging the DVLA boss to obtain further details regarding the alleged bribery attempt and to identify the persons purportedly involved. Meanwhile, in a separate development, the OSP has opened an investigation into a sitting member of the Council of State over suspected corruption and corruption-related offences linked to gold trading. According to sources familiar with the probe, investigators are examining allegations that the Council member exploited his position to influence the issuance of a gold licence to a company in which he is said to have undisclosed business interests.
