Norris’ triumph in Mexico City last week saw him gain the title lead for the first time in 15 rounds. He leads Piastri by one point, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen just 36 points back. It means the Aussie must now must come from behind with just four rounds remaining if he is to clinch a maiden title, which appears to be a tall task given he has finished behind Norris in the last five Grand Prixs. The British driver has been booed twice this season, including in Monza, where Piastri was told to give second place back to his teammate due to a slow pitstop for the Brit. And many are convinced that the Woking-based based team want Norris to win the title over Piastri. But the 24-year-old Aussie says that’s simply not true. “No, it’s not the case. You know, I think the last couple of weekends have been a little bit more tricky, but we’ve got pretty clear answers on why that’s the case,” he said ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix. Image: Getty “There’s not really too many mysteries on what’s kind of happened. “I think there’s some questions of kind of why some differences have cropped up in terms of how I need to drive and stuff like that, but there’s, yeah, everything is explainable. “So there’s definitely none of that going on.” Piastri’s comments come after McLaren team principal Andrea Stella labelled accusations of bias as misinformed. “When you are in my role, it’s like when you have two sons and somebody says, ‘Which one is your preferred son?’ They are my two sons, how can you say which one is the preferred one?” he said on F1’s Beyond the Grid podcast this week.
