Oscar Piastri has raised eyebrows with a subtle ‘like’ on Carlos Sainz’s Instagram post. The Aussie on Tuesday ‘liked’ the Williams driver’s post about the Mexican Grand Prix where they were both involved in late drama. Sainz’s Williams spun off the track on Lap 70, triggering a yellow flag virtual safety car which robbed Piastri of having a final crack at overtaking Ollie Bearman on the final lap. Sainz suffered a DNF, completing a miserable race weekend where a grid penalty dropped him back to P12 after qualifying seventh. Contact in T1 meant damage to the rim of my front tyre, leading to big vibrations, and also sensor damage, so Pit Limiter didn’t work and hence both penalties. “Disappointing snow ball effect but pace was very strong. Brazil next.” Piastri was one of 260,000 to ‘like’ the post, but his act still raised eyebrows with F1 fans. “Oscar Piastri liking a Carlos Sainz post in big 2025, what is going on,” one X user posted, sharing a screengrab of Piastri’s ‘like’. One post with 30,000 views read: “The race was so f***ed it got oscar piastri checking carlos’ race recaps on ig to understand what happened to him”. Oscar Piastri likes Carlos Sainz's post. Piastri and Sainz have had more than their fair share of on-track drama. The duo have previously wiped each other out of races in controversial moments at the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, 2024 Monaco Grand Prix and 2024 Miami Grand Prix. Piastri said they were on good terms earlier this year. “Carlos and I had our moments on track but we’ve made up now,” Piastri said in March. “We actually flew together to Bahrain for pre-season testing”. Piastri also took to Instagram after his frustrating fifth-placed finish in Mexico City, sharing a photo drop of six pictures from his week at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. “Everything to play for,” he wrote with a bicep flex emoji. Sainz’s late spin-off was not Piastri’s only moment of frustration. The 24-year-old was stuck behind Mercedes duo George Russell and Kimi Antonelli for a large part of the race while he watched McLaren teammate Lando Norris take the championship lead with a Mexico masterclass. Carlos Sainz's Williams was parked. Photo: Fox Sports. It was a dominant display for Norris, who now leads the championship by one point from Piastri and has all the momentum heading into the last four races of the season. Piastri had led the standings for 189 days since his victory the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in April, but his form has cratered since the midseason break, with the Aussie going four races without a podium. Speaking after the race in Mexico, Piastri said his car hadn’t changed but he had realised he needed to tweak aspects of his driving style to get the best out of car at certain tracks. “The whole race I was right behind someone, and just struggling in dirty air,” he said. “For me, the biggest thing is trying to learn the things I wanted to learn today. “Yesterday, it became obvious after the (qualifying) session that there were a few things I needed to change pretty majorly about how I was driving. Today was about trying to limit the damage and trying to learn some things. If I made some progress with that then I’m happy.” The remaining four races this season are in Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi — circuits where Piastri finished eighth, seventh, third and 10th last season.
