Original Halo Dev Blasts Campaign Evolved Remake – ‘They Are Breaking It for No Reason’

The worst kept secret is out of the bag with Halo Campaign Evolved revealed and announced for the PS5, but its gameplay has divided fans with even members of the original development team not impressed and accusing Microsoft of “breaking it for no reason”. Jaime Griesemer, one of the original Halo developers and now creative director at Highwire Games, responded to 13-minutes of gameplay by lamenting changes to The Silent Cartographer. Originally, the fight was with Master Chief on-foot, but now in the remake players are able to freely take the Warthog. In the original, this was only possible through glitches and brute force. Griesemer posted, “You aren’t supposed to be able to take the Warthog up to steamroll the Hunters. I intentionally placed rocks in the way so you had to fight them on foot. When you can just smash the crates out of the way it wrecks the encounters. But the worst part? They put trees in the landing area of the WooHoo Jump. Lame”. The original Halo developer elaborated, “Yes, everybody, I know you can FORCE the Warthog through the gap in a variety of ways. I literally spent most of a day making it discouraging and difficult but not impossible”. In response to a user asking why he is crying about nostalgia, Griesemer responded, “Because I made it right and they are breaking it for no reason”. In another reply, the developer stated that the inferior design was “not intentional, just lack of attention to detail”. Halo Campaign Evolved Remake Vs. Original Another criticised component of the upcoming Halo Campaign Evolved Remake is that there’s no PvP multiplayer. Executive producer, Damon Conn, told Windows Central that there’s no PvP action because “We’re not trying to replace what is a masterpiece in the original”. While the lack of competitive multiplayer is disappointing, the good news is that there will be the original two-player local split-screen co-op available on console. For the first time, there will also be four player online co-op with crossplay available across PS5, Xbox, and PC, too. Other differences include much better visuals thanks to Unreal Engine 5, as well as “three new bonus campaign missions” and “a roster of beloved weapons and vehicles from later Halo titles”. Halo Campaign Evolved is coming to Xbox, PC, and, for the very first time, PS5 in 2026. Other Xbox exclusives coming to PS5 include Microsoft Flight Simulator, and NateTheHate claims Starfield is finally coming to PS5 in 2026.
