A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Lawuratu Musah-Saka, has accused the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, of turning his office into a platform for “public relations and populism” rather than upholding due process. Speaking on The Forum on Asaase Radio, Musah-Saka said the Attorney-General’s repeated public comments on alleged corruption cases, including the one involving former NAFCO CEO, risk prejudicing judicial outcomes and compromising the safety and dignity of accused persons. She noted that such behaviour from “the leader of the Bar” undermines the ethics of the legal profession and sends the wrong signal to young lawyers. “It’s like we have a celebrity A-G who cares more about PR than law,” she said. “Everyone is innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. So, what is the A-G doing?” “In 2025, where over 800 people have been called to the Bar, is this how law is supposed to be practiced? Let nobody think that those who go wrong should go unpunished, but the A-G cannot act as judge, prosecutor, and jury in the court of public opinion,” Musah-Saka added. The NPP communicator warned that the Attorney-General’s statements labeling individuals as looters before trial could incite public hostility and jeopardize their safety. Musah-Saka urged Dr. Ayine to “tone down the celebrity lifestyle and populism” and let the courts determine guilt or innocence. “If the A-G says you’ve stolen millions of taxpayers’ money, an aggravated citizen can do anything. We don’t live in a jungle; we are governed by the rule of law. The one turning things upside down is the Attorney-General,” she stressed. The Attorney-General has recently faced criticism from sections of the public and the opposition for making pre-trial pronouncements on corruption cases, with some describing his conduct as “an embarrassment to his office.” Asaase Broadcasting Company airs on Asaase 99.5 Accra, Asaase 98.5 Kumasi, Asaase 99.7 Tamale, Asaase 100.3 Cape Coast, AsaasePa 107.3 (Accra).
