An opulent 15-bedroom mansion is on the market for less than a central London flat but there's a reason the luxury property is not so extortionate. The Scottish mansion is on sale for for £1.89m - the same price as a two-bed flat in Mayfair. On top of the 15 bedrooms, Monreith Estate boasts six reception rooms, spread over four floors, as well as a number of cottages dotted across the 328.47 acres of woodlands that surround the property. Its grounds contain 'the jewel in the crown of the estate' in the form of the White Loch of Myrton - complete with a boat house and a pike fishing licence. But the location might give any potential buyers food for thought before they put forward an offer for this Georgian Mansion. This is because Monreith Estate is situated in a very isolated part of the UK close to the southernmost tip of Scotland. The nearest major town, Stranraer, is situated 24 miles which is also where the closest train station is where just two trains per day run. Other far away amenities include Glasgow Prestwick Airport, which is 50 miles away, and the nearest supermarkets are still a nearly 30 minute drive away. However, for nature lovers and those looking to live off the beaten track, Monreith Estate offer access to the breathtaking Scottish countryside. This includes the numerous nature reserves dotted across the Scottish Borders - which are world renowned for their natural beauty. Monreith Estate was commissioned in 1791 by Sir William Maxwell, ancestor of naturalist and writer Gavin Maxwell and designed by Alexander Stevens, replacing the earlier Myrton Castle, parts of which were reused in the construction. The estate also includes the remains of Kirkmaiden Church, a Scheduled Ancient Monument - a small former church and burial ground. It is listed by Savills for offers over £1,890,000 - just £100,000 more than the cost of a two-bed apartment in London's W1 postcode. Kay Paton from Savills said: 'Monreith House and Estate stand as a testament to the Maxwell family's legacy and combine a magnificent country house with beautiful gardens and loch; and some fascinating historical elements, not least the ruined church and rich interior details. 'This is, without a doubt, a very exciting sale and an outstanding opportunity.
