Opinion: Canada’s sovereignty starts with local food

Equally important is recognizing agriculture as an essential service. The COVID-19 pandemic taught us that certain sectors must keep operating even when others pause. B.C.’s agriculture sector anchors our communities by producing products that sustain every household, every business lunch, and every hospital meal. When disaster strikes — whether fires, floods, or supply chain disruptions — producers do not have the option to stop working without consequences for all British Columbians.
