Onondaga County legislature flip rekindles memories of 1977 (Your Letters)

To the Editor: Regarding “Democrats flip the Onondaga County Legislature for first time in nearly 50 years” (Nov. 4, 2025): The year was 1977, I was 19 years old and fresh off working the 1976 campaign at the ripe old age of 18. Mike Bragman, then Democratic Onondaga County committee chair and county legislator, had set up campaign headquarters in a storefront on South Salina Street and asked me to volunteer. Having just worked in storefront campaign headquarters in 1976, I jumped at the opportunity. The campaign headquarters team assembled: the late Bob Cecile, the late Dawn Hallock and me that kid from the 1976 campaign headquarters, which had been led by the late Marleah Farnett. Well, we did it in 1977. We won control of the Onondaga County legislature. Bragman became chair of the legislature and the rest is history. I have always been very proud of my involvement at that moment in time and want to congratulate those involved at this moment in time. You have accomplished something special and have rekindled so many memories for me. Yes, Virginia, involvement in politics and civic discourse can be a most rewarding and wonderful experience. The friends, the experience, the fun times , the tough times are all worth it. Don’t let the doom and gloom turn you off. Instead, get involved and learn something, give something back and, most of all, have fun. And, oh, the memories. Ricky Noreault Granby
