ONDC appoints former Paytm executive Rohit Lohia as chief business officer

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has appointed Rohit Lohia as its chief business officer (CBO). The government-backed digital commerce network announced this in a statement. "My aim is to foster an ecosystem where transparent access, innovation, and operational excellence go hand in hand. Together, we will empower small businesses and enable creation of a win-win relationship between sellers and buyers by unlocking value across the digital commerce landscape," said Rohit Lohia, Chief Business Officer at ONDC. Lohia previously served as the senior vice president at Paytm (One97 Communications), where he led business strategy, product development, and risk functions. He also held board positions at Paytm Money and One97 Communication India. “Rohit brings valuable experience in building and scaling new-age digital businesses. Coupled with his deep understanding of the ecommerce landscape, Rohit’s expertise will help drive the ecosystem towards new unlocks and sustainable value creation through the Open Network construct," said Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO at ONDC. The leadership shuffle at the Open Network started earlier this year after Managing Director and Chief Executive, Thampy Koshy, stepped down after his three-year tenure in April. The initiative by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade appointed Vibhor Jain as the acting CEO, even as it continued its search for a permanent chief executive. During this period, Shireesh Joshi, Chief Business Officer and President of Network Expansion at ONDC also quit the network to attend to personal matters. (Edited by Swetha Kannan)
