Decades later, he stands as the owner of a company with an annual turnover of Rs 250 crore, exporting its products to 50 countries. Born in Sindh, Shravan Kumar completed his education up to matriculation before relocating to India with his family following the 1971 war. Upon settling in Barmer, he started a small grocery store on Station Road, selling miscellaneous items and later running an oil shop. Through hard work and honesty, he earned the trust of customers. Shravan Kumar’s fate took a turn in 2001 when he ventured into the guar gum industry, founding Mahesh Agro Food Industry. The Guar Gum Success Story Guar gum, widely used in food, medicine, cosmetics, and oil industries, presented a significant opportunity. Despite initial challenges, Shravan Kumar’s understanding of the market and commitment to quality led to his products reaching 50 countries, including Germany, the United States, China, Russia, Britain, and Japan. His company now exports processed guar gum powder that meets international standards, earning praise for quality and timely delivery. Built A Rs 250-Crore Empire From Scratch Reflecting on his journey, Shravan Kumar said, “Hard work and confidence were my greatest assets.” He shared that he never saw a lack of a degree as a barrier, instead he focused on market demand, modern technology, and installing automatic plants in his factory. Today, his company employs hundreds, including farmers, labourers, engineers, and marketing staff. Embracing modernity, his plant has ISO and FSSAI certifications, and by purchasing guar from local farmers, he boosts the regional economy. Shravan Kumar emphasised the importance of understanding customer needs, maintaining quality, and timely delivery as keys to success.
