Why follow in dad’s political footsteps when you can follow in dad’s girlfriend’s pop star footsteps? That’s the question Justin Trudeau’s son is asking! The former Canadian Prime Minister’s son Xavier, who turned 18 just two weeks ago, is taking on the music industry! Apparently he’s trying to make it in the music biz! On Halloween, Xavier released the music video for his and Duava’s new song The Dive, which first dropped last month. In it, the teen takes a stab at… rapping? singing? really what sounds like a blend of both! The new video features a white horse, a flashy sports car, and even a cameo from Dad, the former PM himself. Watch (below): It’s a weird flex putting the former Canadian Prime Minister into your rap video, but if you can do it… Across social media, fans were quick to rush in with their… erm… range of opinions on the song: “Whole song sponsored by taxpayer dollars and daddy’s approval” “Lil carbon tax back at it again lol “ “Please end the family political tradition” “Not bad. Idk why I was expecting him to be bad. People are just haters. He got talent + his dad’s looks” “Nice song .. Good luck on your career young fella! It runs in your family be good always and don’t touch bad stuff and vices like other celebrities do” “This is literal cringe. His voice is entirely autotuned to the point where the lyrics are drowned out, and the video is noisy and pointless. The only reason anyone even knows he exists is because his father is famous and can buy his way into getting him a record deal.” Others turned their attention to a possible future collaboration with Katy Perry, given she’s dating his father: “I hope your dad isn’t using Katy to get your music career going” “Make a song with ur new stepmom” “Katy Perry feat Xav when!?” “Why isn’t Katy Perry in this and why haven’t you changed your name to Parliament Next Door?” That would sure be… inneresting! Back in February, Xavier opened up about breaking the family tradition and stepping into the world of music on the Brandon Gonez Show: “As I got older, I started realizing, like, this is fun, this is cool, but this isn’t me. I’m not the one who did this for myself. This is all because of my dad and what he’s accomplished – and I’ve so much respect for what he’s done, but I want to create what I want to create.” What are YOUR thoughts on Xavier Trudeau’s new song and music video?
