Omaha to hold parade celebrating Terence 'Bud' Crawford's win. Here are the details

A parade for Terence “Bud” Crawford will take place in downtown Omaha on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The celebration, which is set to begin at 10 a.m., will come two weeks after the Omaha boxing superstar defeated Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision in a bout at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.

Crawford’s win ensured he stayed undefeated at 42-0 as he also captured all four super middleweight titles. Crawford’s fight against Canelo Alvarez was streamed globally on Netflix.

Mayor John Ewing announced plans for the parade at a press conference Wednesday.

“This is someone who has not only won every fight but has performed at a level of excellence that we have never seen before,” Ewing said. “There has never been anybody that I’m aware of who has dominated like he has. This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

The parade will start at 19th and Farnam Streets and move east along Farnam Street, turn south at 11th Street and conclude at 10th and Harney Streets. A celebration will follow at Heartland of America Park.

Ewing said the city expects 15,000 to 20,000 people to attend the parade. Other parade and celebration details, including who will speak, are being discussed with Crawford’s team and city officials.

“It’s not very easy to put a parade of this magnitude together,” Ewing said. “We have a number of staff that are working with his team to make sure we give him a proper celebration.”

It will be the second time in three years that the city will host a downtown parade in Crawford’s honor.

In August 2023, Omaha threw a parade after Crawford defeated Errol Spencer Jr., a win that made him the first modern male boxer to be undisputed champion in two weight classes.
