Singer Olivia Rodrigo hit out at the Trump administration for using her music in a social media video touting its deportation efforts. The official Instagram accounts for the Department of Homeland Security and White House posted the video earlier this week, showing people being arrested and deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents while Rodrigo’s song “all american b****” plays. Rodrigo, who is Filipino American, wrote in a comment on the video: “don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.” As of Saturday, Rodrigo’s comment appeared to have been deleted. “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe,” a DHS spokesperson told TMZ, referencing the lyrics in Rodrigo’s song. "We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice.” Newsweek has contacted DHS for further comment via an emails sent outside regular business hours. This is a developing story. More to follow.
