Oleksandr Usyk has made it absolutely clear that he doesn’t have long left in boxing. The undefeated Ukrainian, who many people believe is currently the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, insisted in the build-up to his second fight against Daniel Dubois this summer that he very likely only had two fights left in him. One of those was his victory over Dubois.
This leaves Usyk with just one more boxing match to compete in. However, he still believes he has more left in the tank. Still in phenomenal physical shape, ‘The Cat’ is open to a showdown against Jake Paul and he has let ‘The Problem Child’ know his condition for signing up for a fight.
Usyk had a face-off with Paul following his most recent win at Wembley Stadium, much to the dislike of hardcore boxing fans. There can be no doubt, though, that a clash between the pair would do big business.
Oleksandr Usyk Targets Jake Paul MMA Fight After Boxing Retirement
Last week, Paul posted a video to social media where he outlined his five-year plan, and in the video, you can see his goals on a piece of paper, one of them being “beat Oleksandr Usyk.” The heavyweight champion has now responded to Paul’s video by saying, “I’ll be waiting for you in the cage” once he is done and dusted with boxing.
Although any fighter making a move over from boxing to MMA at the age of 38 may seem a bad idea, Usyk has spoken about his love of MMA many times and has reportedly even trained in different martial arts such as jiu-jitsu, judo and kickboxing. Usyk, of course, wouldn’t have to train his hands at all, as he is one of the greatest boxers of all time, but the fact that he may already have a slight head start on Paul when it comes to other disciplines could give the fight a greater chance of happening.
Boxing fans may be disappointed to see Usyk entertaining this as they probably want him to ride off into the sunset and enjoy his retirement post-boxing. However, the lucrative nature of the fight makes it easy to understand why Usyk is interested in making it happen once he has retired from the squared circle.
