Old Farmer's Almanac Predicts Weather for Christmas

The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its forecast for the week of Christmas this year, predicting “a wide range of winter weather across North America—from snow-covered roads to clear skies.” Why It Matters The Old Farmer’s Almanac's outlook offers guidance for families and travelers as they prepare for the busy holiday travel season. What To Know The publication said that snowy weather is expected in regions such as the Northeast, Upper Midwest, Lower Lakes, eastern Ohio Valley, and Alaska, offering the possibility of a white Christmas but potentially creating hazardous travel conditions. Stormy and rainy weather is expected in the northern Pacific Northwest and Alaska Panhandle, with rain and snow showers predicted for the Intermountain West and High Plains. The Pacific Southwest is expected to see showers later in the week as holiday travelers head home, it said. Meanwhile, parts of the southern U.S., including the Southeast, Florida, the Texas-Oklahoma regions, as well as the Atlantic Corridor and Hawaii, can anticipate sunny skies and minimal precipitation, which The Old Farmer’s Almanac said could support smoother travel experiences. The almanac's forecast said that regions such as the Deep South will experience a mix of conditions, with sunny skies shifting to showers, while along the Atlantic Corridor, rain and snow showers are expected to clear to sunshine. In the Appalachians, the forecast calls for sunny weather in the north and showers in the south early on, followed by snow as the holiday approaches. The Desert Southwest, meanwhile, is expected to start with sunshine before seeing a few isolated showers, the forecast added. What People Are Saying Sarah Perreault, the managing editor of The Old Farmer's Almanac, previously told Newsweek: "The Old Farmer's Almanac is the original guide to living well and has always been known for its wit, wisdom, and solid advice that's relevant to real life. We celebrate core values and entertain the whole family with a healthy degree of humor and a sense of optimism. Every fall, The Old Farmer's Almanac pops up at local stores, and although it is brand new each year, it isn't changing." What Happens Next The publication has also released its forecast for the Thanksgiving period. “We're predicting a patchwork of weather across the U.S., with sunshine in much of the East and rainy conditions in the West,” Carol Connare, the editor of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, previously told Newsweek. “Snow may disrupt travel in a few northern areas—northern New England, the Upper Midwest, the higher elevations in the Intermountain West, and Alaska."
