Olay’s Thai Food Express reopens in Aiea after violations fixed

Olay’s Thai Food Express has reopened with a green “pass” placard after correcting a series of health code violations that forced its closure last week, the Hawaii Department of Health said.

The Aiea restaurant, located at 99-927 Iwaena St. and operated by Dao Heung LLC, was ordered to shut down Sept. 11 after inspectors found problems including insufficient refrigeration, lack of soap and paper towels at handwashing sinks, food stored in reused cardboard boxes and utensils not being properly sanitized. Three of the four refrigerators, including the walk-in unit, were out of temperature and ready-to-eat food was not marked with dates for safe consumption.

The Department of Health required the restaurant to repair its refrigeration equipment to ensure cold-holding temperatures of 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below. A follow-up inspection on Sept. 12 confirmed the correction of refrigeration issues and other violations, and the restaurant was cleared to reopen.

The Food Safety Branch, which conducts routine inspections statewide, said its placarding program helps protect residents and visitors by ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
