“Minding Your Business” centers on Rachel Carver, who is desperate to leave Oklahoma and return to New York City. To make it happen, she must strike a deal with Jacob Rush, a business superstar who happens to be the sworn enemy of her family. Their high-stakes business deal is immediately threatened by their families’ bitter, long-standing rivalry, forcing Rachel and Jacob to navigate the hilarious mishaps and genuine struggles of balancing career ambitions and love.
“We set out to make the kind of movie we felt was missing — a great story, well told, that doesn’t rely on shock value or a massive budget,” said a statement from the directors. “This film asks a pivotal question: Are the things you want truly worth the sacrifices you make to get them? It’s a business-centric rom-com with a deep heart that’s genuinely a great watch for the whole family.”
The news release said “Minding Your Business” is a testament to the strength of the Oklahoma film community. Kloehr and Thomas bypassed major casting hubs and instead uncovered talent in their home state. The film features performances from Clarissa Cozzoni, a recent University of Oklahoma drama graduate; David Greyson, an Oklahoma City native known for his comedic chops; and Kristen Elizabeth Dickey, who was a student at OU during filming.
“The talent we found here in Oklahoma was nothing short of remarkable,” Kloehr said. “We’re incredibly proud that our cast and 100% of our crew were hired locally. ‘Minding Your Business’ is proof that you don’t have to import talent to produce a high-quality film.”
