OKCIC Wellness Center achieves prestigious Medical Fitness Association certification

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic Wellness Center has achieved facility certification by the Medical Fitness Association – the nation’s leading organization dedicated to medically integrated wellness and fitness facilities. This certification represents a significant commitment to excellence, demonstrating the wellness center’s dedication to providing “the highest standards of professional expertise, quality programming, and evidence-based care.” The certification also marks a historic milestone as the first Medical Fitness Association certification in Oklahoma and the first awarded to an American Indian facility. “This certification is an honor to receive and represents the hard work and dedication our staff has given to the wellness center, and our patients,” said Michelle Dennison, vice president of Policy, Diabetes & Prevention. “We have dedicated ourselves to putting our patients first by providing quality health care and wellness services with integrity and professionalism, and this certification exemplifies that.” Through initiatives like Medical Fitness, the wellness center integrates clinical care and physical fitness to help patients manage chronic conditions, such as diabetes, pre-diabetes, and obesity, improving both daily function and long-term health outcomes. The OKCIC Wellness Center averages approximately 2,500 patient encounters each month and is supported by 12 life coaches and certified personal trainers. Patients referred by their providers can participate in Medical Fitness, a 12-week medically integrated fitness program that includes individualized exercise prescriptions, one-on-one personal training and progress tracking to support sustainable health improvements. This certification underscores OKCIC’s commitment to bridging medical care and wellness through prevention, rehabilitation and lifelong healthy habits, further supporting the clinic’s vision to be the national model for American Indian health care.
