A police officer who was "making their way home after a busy few days on shift" showed they are "never truly off-duty" when they quickly came to the assistance of a colleague in Grimsby . The officer, who had just left Hamilton Street police station at around 10.45pm on Sunday, received an alert on his radio. They were driving along Cleethorpe Road at the time and the request for assistance came from Railway Street, just a couple of minutes away. The affray alarm had been pressed on the radio of the officer requesting help and "the sounds of fighting and struggling could be heard". The off-duty officer knew they would be able to get to the scene sooner than other uniformed units to assist so "swiftly sprang into action to help". A Humberside Police spokesperson added: "With a second pair of hands helping to detain the man, the uniformed officer was able to place a set of rigid handcuffs on a 47-year-old man and subsequently arrested him on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. "Thankfully, no one was injured as a result and thanks to the quick thinking and unwavering commitment to not only protect the public, but protect their colleague too, the incident came to a safe conclusion."
