Odisha to Plant 75 Lakh Trees on Sept 17: Agriculture Dept to Lead with 23 Lakh Saplings

The effort is a tribute to environmental sustainability and coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.

As part of this campaign, the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department, along with the Directorate of Soil Conservation and Horticulture, will plant over 23 lakh saplings across all departmental office premises and other available spaces in every district.

Agriculture Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee has urged all officials to actively participate by planting at least one sapling each. The saplings will be supplied by the Directorate of Soil Conservation and Horticulture, ensuring indigenous and fruit-bearing varieties are used.

Participants are instructed to photograph their plantation activities and upload them to the MeriLiFE portal, reinforcing transparency and public engagement. Dr. Padhee emphasized that this collective effort will help restore the planet’s greenery and inspire a culture of environmental stewardship.

The campaign is expected to mobilize thousands of government employees, farmers, and volunteers, making it one of the largest coordinated plantation drives in the state’s history.
