Odisha Cabinet Discusses Legislative Strategy and PM’s Birthday Celebrations

The meeting focused on the government’s approach in the Assembly, addressing potential challenges, and ensuring smooth proceedings amid anticipated opposition moves.

The Cabinet deliberated on four key agendas, including countering a possible no-confidence motion from opposition parties and maintaining order in the House. Sources indicate that discussions centred on tackling opposition criticisms and ensuring legislative discipline, especially after the previous session saw disruptions leading to the suspension of Congress MLAs by the Speaker. Both opposition parties, BJD and Congress, had accused the Speaker of bias and criticised the conduct of ruling party members. The government is now preparing to prevent similar disruptions and maintain decorum in the Assembly.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of various programs planned to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday. These include planting 75 lakh saplings across Odisha and launching the nationwide “Healthy Women, Empowered Family” campaign. Chief Minister Majhi, along with other ministers, will participate in these initiatives to promote environmental and social welfare.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling emphasised that the government is focused on decisions that prioritise the interests of Odisha’s people. “The eyes of the state are on the upcoming Assembly session. We aim to make significant decisions while effectively addressing opposition challenges,” he said. The meeting also covered strategies for legislative management and countering opposition narratives.

Ministers present included Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Nayak, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Gokulananda Mallik, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, and School Education Minister Nityananda Gond. Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena joined via video conferencing.
