Sheldon Community Schools' Stephanie Pritts has been named Iowa Teacher of the Year. Pritts, an instructional coach at Sheldon Community School District, is a 23-year educator. The award was announced on Thursday at an assembly. The Sioux City Council will be asked Monday to approve the submission of an application to the Iowa Department of Transportation for funding for proposed I-29 and Virginia Street traffic improvements. "After unsuccessful attempts to either sell the church or have it moved, the Council voted to abate the asbestos and move forward with demolition of the building following the removal of various artifacts," city documents stated. The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce is declining to back any of the three incumbents running for reelection to the Sioux City school board. Instead, the Chamber Good Government Committee has endorsed challengers Cyndi Hanson, Christian Supiot Perez and A.J. Cecil-Starlin.
