OCEAN CITY — The Board of Education is set to appoint a new member through the election of 2026.
In August, the district posted a notice to Facebook that applications were being accepted to fill the seat until December 2026. The next meeting is Oct. 16 at the media center in Ocean City High School.
District officials did not respond to emails seeking more information. School board President Kevin Barnes, contacted in connection with his bid for reelection this year, said board member Charles Roche resigned over the summer.
A primary care physician, Roche had been appointed to the board to fill an unexpired term in 2021. He failed to win a seat on the board in 2022, and was one of three successful candidates in 2024, a year in which the three seats were not contested.
Barnes said a majority of the Board of Education will choose a candidate to fill the open seat, likely at the October meeting.
This year, there are three seats up for election on the board, with two separate slates of three candidates on the ballot.
