NYT Connections Hints Today: Monday, October 27 Clues And Answers (#869)

Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections. Each day’s game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today’s NYT Connections hints and answers, here’s what you missed on Sunday: ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Sunday, October 26 (#868)By Erik Kain Hey there, Connectors! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Here’s to a wonderful week. If you’re a newcomer around here, hi! Welcome! I hope you enjoy my approach to Connections hints and answers. I’d absolutely love it if you become a regular. On the Monday editions of this column, I love to get things started with a fun, upbeat song. If I can help broaden your smile on a Monday and maybe even get you dancing a little, I’d be extremely happy with that. “Dancing” is kind of the operative word there. This week, we’re going with a song that I did not expect to be referenced in the historical Japanese action video game about revenge that I’m playing right now. I smiled when I picked up the item that was a clear reference to “Dancing In The Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. I hope this tune makes you smile too: MORE FOR YOU Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday, October 27 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling! NYT Connections Hints – How To Play Connections is a free New York Times daily word game that you can play on the NYT’s website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game. Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don’t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that’s what you have to figure out. There’s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it’s game over. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs – part of the fun of Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes. As with Wordle and similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game tracks your progress too. Many players take pride in having long win streaks or getting a reverse rainbow – correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow groups in that order with no mistakes. That adds an extra little challenge. NYT Connections Hints – Today’s Word List Scroll slowly! I’ll first give you a list of today’s words, then a hint for each category. After that, I’ll reveal one word that goes into each group. Then I’ll tell you the category names, followed by the full answers. Today’s 16 words are... NYT Connections Hints And the hints for today’s Connections groups are: 🟨 Yellow group — flow outward 🟩 Green group — barely there, like the level of effort I put into swiffering (my floors are very clean, to be clear) 🟦 Blue group — fancy seeing that in the glass 🟪 Purple group — final, big, 10 and two by would all fit in here NYT Connections Hints – One Answer Per Group Need some extra help? Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory. Let’s take a look at one answer for each group. Here we go… 🟨 Yellow group — RADIATE 🟩 Green group — ONLY 🟦 Blue group — MINT 🟪 Purple group — FAB NYT Connections Hints – Groups/Categories Today’s Connections groups are... 🟨 Yellow group — emanate 🟩 Green group — in the slightest 🟦 Blue group — cocktail garnishes 🟪 Purple group — _____ four NYT Connections Answers Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers. This is your last chance to look away. This is your final warning! Today’s Connections answers are... 🟨 Yellow group — emanate (BRANCH, FAN, RADIATE, SPREAD) 🟩 Green group — in the slightest (JUST, MERELY, ONLY, SIMPLY) 🟦 Blue group — cocktail garnishes (CHERRY, MINT, OLIVE, TWIST) 🟪 Purple group — _____ four (CONNECT, FAB, FANTASTIC, PETIT) So, the top line of the default grid is pretty interesting: ONLY CONNECT OLIVE BRANCH. When Connections debuted in 2023, there were suggestions that the NYT was – let’s say – heavily inspired by the connecting wall round of the BBC quiz show Only Connect, which debuted in 2008. In that round, teams get 16 clues and have to arrange them into four groups of four. There’s only one correct solution. Hmmm… The "olive branch" here suggests that the NYT Games team is making a peace offering of sorts, at least to my eye. Anyway, the greens were first up for me today. No problem there, just straightforward synonyms. BRANCH and SPREAD landed by each other, which made the yellows pop out at me. Mostly, at least. It took me a moment to realize RADIATE was the fourth word. OLIVE and CHERRY then made the blues apparent. An Old Fashioned is my go-to cocktail, so I'm used to having an orange peel TWIST in my glass. That left the purples for victory. And yes, I did figure out the link before submitting them. CONNECT Four is a classic board game: A Connect Four game 2014 Invision FAB Four is a nickname for The Beatles. FANTASTIC Four is a group of Marvel characters (I still need to watch the Fantastic Four movie from this summer – it’s coming to Disney+ next week). As for PETIT four, that’s a small-bite appetizer or dessert. I love round numbers and I especially love the number 240 right now, since that's what my current streak sits at. How did you get on? Here's my grid for today: The purples were the only group that seemed to be worth spelling out this time, so I’m gonna skip the Answers Explained column today. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Tuesday’s game if you need them. P.S. While I was trying to figure out a hint for the purples, this song popped into my head. My parents really liked it when I was a kid, and I heard it all the time. I like it too. As it turns out, “’74–’75” by The Connells (who are from North Carolina) never charted in the U.S., but it was a hit in Europe: Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other!
