The New York City civil service exam schedule is open for November, and some jobs pay more than others. The application period for exams opened Nov. 5. Exam applications currently open include: architect; computer associate (operations); media services technican; media services technician (CUNY); procurement analyst; project manager intern; stock worker; stock worker (CUNY); stock worker (NYC H+H); and traffic enforcement agent. The starting salary for each career varies, according to the city. Open, competitive, computer-based tests are administered throughout each month for various positions. If you meet the basic requirements of the job, you can apply for your exam online at Online Application System or at one of the Computer-Based Testing and Application Centers. Most of these exams have a deadline of Nov. 25. The exams for emergency medical specialist - EMT and emergency medical specialist trainee are also open until Nov. 25, while the exam for police officer is open until Nov. 17. Here is the starting salary, deadline and job description for each career, according to the city. Architect Salary: $78,740 Application deadline: Nov. 25 Job description: : Architects, under general supervision, perform responsible supervisory work, or difficult and responsible work in architecture. Computer associate (operations) Salary: $59,537 Application deadline: Nov. 25 Job description: Computer Associates (Operations), under general supervision, with very considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment: supervise the activities of subordinates in one or more computer operations units of considerable size; or serve as a technical resource person in the performance of networked, multi-tiered, or mainframe computer operations; or perform as a technical resource person in the diagnosis of and, when feasible, the correction of telecommunications hardware problems in order to maintain efficient functioning of telecommunication operations and to minimize downtime in the case of system failure. Media services technician Salary: $48,170 Application deadline: Nov. 25 Job description: Media Services Technicians, under supervision or direction, perform technical work of varying degrees of difficulty in the set-up, operation, training, maintenance and repair of digital, audiovisual, video production, DVD, computer system, digital photography, presentation, recording, projection, duplication, and related broadcast production equipment in a shop, studio or in the field. Media Services Technicians may transport equipment for on-site use or shop repair, as well as operate a motor vehicle for such purposes. Additionally, in assignments to District Attorney Offices, Media Services Technicians prepare evidence for courtroom needs by means of forensic analysis including but not limited to recovery, examination, evaluation, comparison, and presentation of various media sources, and testify in court. Media Services Technicians (CUNY) must have a general knowledge of Windows and Apple-based computers along with pertinent software. They may transport equipment for on-site use or shop repair, as well as operate a motor vehicle for such purposes. Procurement analyst Salary: $46,590 Application deadline: Nov. 25 Job description: Procurement Analysts, under supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and decision-making, assist procurement personnel in purchasing goods, services, construction and/or construction-related services, and/or in processing procurement documents and contracts; confer with, advise and assist operational, technical and professional staff in the procurement process and manage contracts for services as assigned. Project manager intern Salary: $59,888 Application deadline: Nov. 25 Job description: Project Manager Interns under supervision, with limited latitude for independent judgment and action, perform elementary level project management work and receive training in project management work of moderate difficulty. All Project Manager Interns perform related work. Some of the physical activities performed by Project Manager Interns and environmental conditions experienced are: driving a motor vehicle to and from inspection sites; walking to and from inspection sites; climbing and descending ladders or stairs to get to areas to be inspected; standing for an extended period of time; bending and stooping during inspections; working in confined areas; distinguishing colors; wearing a hard hat, gas mask and goggles for manhole inspections; communicating orally; carrying a clipboard and inspection forms; climbing around and over various objects; walking in areas that may be damp, dark, smoky or acrid; working outdoors in all kinds of weather.
