Leicy Santos is many things and among them, she’s the first Colombian to set foot in the NWSL. After spending five years in Spain, playing for Atlético de Madrid, she landed in the Capital city last year.
“Kickin’ It” is a fun Q&A that consists of all non-soccer questions for players to get a break from the usual soccer talk.
Let’s get to know a little more about the person behind the player.
SBNation: What do you like to do in your free time?
Leicy Santos: I usually use my free time to learn. Right now, I’m doing a course on real estate because I’m passionate about it. And then, suddenly, you’ll find me taking another course about anything else I’m passionate about. I always like to be evolving in my intellectual part and I usually spend my free time on it. However, if we talk more about entertainment, I think I need to go to the movies more. I don’t go much here because of the language barrier. Back when I was in Madrid, I used to go to the movies a lot along with my friends but here my focus is somewhere else.
SBNation: And do you have a preferred genre?
Santos: I usually watch anything but if I have to choose, I’ll always go for a Disney movie. I love how I’m fully charged with positive energy after watching them because they send the message that we have to let our inner child die and live as such, without expecting anything but being happy. What is more, I like to watch those movies to reconnect, to unload, because we’re surrounded by negative things and so that kinds of movies help me to clear my mind and think differently.
SBNation: What about coffee? Do you have a preference there?
Santos: My favorite coffee will always be a Colombian coffee but not specialty coffees. I like my coffee pretty simple, such as drip coffee or American coffee. However, it has to be of excellent quality so I can drink it and enjoy the flavors and textures the coffee might have.
SBNation: What about food?
Santos: My favorite food is my mother’s. We have this fish where I come from called “bocachico” and that’s literally my favorite food in the world. It reminds me of home.
SBNation: And if we talk about places you might want to go on vacation?
Santos: I love experiences, so I always wanted to travel to places where the country and the culture are very different than mine. Like Bali or Thailand… those kinds of places. Japan. I’d like to go back there. I’ve already been to Japan with the national team, but I’d like to go back to enjoy the trip as such.
SBNation: If you could pick three things from Colombia and take them with you to Washington, what would those three things be?
Santos: No doubt it would be my family, the coffee and arepas.
