Jimmy Newton is a distinguished alumnus of St Augustine's College in Cape Coast of the Central Region. Jimmy Newton, Joseph and Eliason won the second NSMQ trophy for the St Augustine's College, 12 years after their first trophy. They scored 39 points at the time, surpassing their contenders, St Peter's SHS and PRESEC. After leaving St Augustine's College, Jimmy Newton proceeded to KNUST to study to become a medical doctor.
