NSA Probes GPS Spoofing Attack That Hit Flight Operations At Delhi Airport

The office of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has launched a probe into the GPS spoofing that attack that disrupted flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Flight operations were hit after a major technical glitch hit the AMSS. Major carriers such as IndiGo, Air India, Spicejet, Akasa Air as well as international airlines such as British Airways and Lufthansa were severely impacted. While the glitch was fixed a day later, the incident reignited questions over India's aviation safety infrastructure. In fact, a report by a parliamentary committee had flagged concerns about two months ago. The 380th report on the 'Overall Review of Safety in the Civil Aviation Sector' - tabled by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture on August 20 - had warned that automation systems at major airports, such as Delhi and Mumbai, were facing "performance degradation, slowness and system lag". The committee had also drawn attention to how Indian ATC systems was lagging behind global standards and highlighted how controller fatigue and staff shortages posed serious safety risks.
